Are you familiar with the acronym S.T.E.M.? What about S.T.E.A.M.? They can both be used interchangeably, but for the sake of this article, I will refer to it as STEAM. If you’re not sure how to use STEAM in your homeschool, this post is for you!
So what does S.T.E.A.M. mean anyway? It simply means Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. S.T.E.A.M. activities are designed to help children ask questions to build both their creative thinking and critical thinking skills. It’s also a great way for kids to get hands-on learning, is simple to implement, and often provides a nice change of pace to the homeschool routine.
Let’s take a look at some of my favorite STEAM activities for homeschoolers.
This post is sponsored by MYTEK LAB. My time was compensated however all opinions or my own.
Science Activities
National Geographic Science Magic Kit
This kit includes 20 science experiments where your kids will learn how to bend metal with water, create a vanishing test tube, make a coin float, and much more!
In this fun kit, your kids will make their own gummies shaped like worms and spiders using natural plant-based gelatin while investigating the scientific properties of natural polymers!
Technology Activities
If you ever wanted to sign your techie kids up for a super cool techie class, MYTEK LAB is a great option! With technology education growing and changing more and more every day, MYTEK LAB offers flex-paced classes with expert instructors that will help your child learn new tech skills that can be used in the real world!
Class prices range from $49 to $199 and include classes like Information Technology, Computer Technology, Computer Science, and more!
We chose the Computer Technology Elementary class. This class meets weekly every Tuesday for about an hour. The class is taught by instructor Stephen Souders, otherwise known as Mr. MYTEK. He has worked in the field of IT since he was 15 years old when he began his career by working for an ISP while still in high school. Impressive!
This year-long course will cover:
- Intro to Computer Fundamentals
- 2D Game Art
- Programming
- 3D modeling for games
- VR Development
- Web Design
- Robotics
- 3D Modeling for 3D Printing

Discovery Kids Electricity Construction Set
This electricity construction set includes blueprints that make it easy to build a fully functional machine. They will learn about circuits and electricity so they can use their creativity to create whatever they can imagine.
Engineering Activities
Engineering with cardboard is so cool! This book uses simple household tools so that kids can follow the step-by-step photographic instructions to exercise their design smarts, expand their 3-D thinking, and learn the basics of physics and engineering with activities that have real-life applications.
My son engineered these awesome cars with his own ideas but this book is a great way to give more STEAM activities ideas!
Marshmallow Engineering
I did this STEAM activity to illustrate a Bible lesson on the Tower of Babel using marshmallows and toothpicks! They enjoyed figuring out a way to engineer it so that it didn’t fall down!
Art Activities
This science art kit will help kids grow Red, Green, Blue, and Orange Hedgehogs Crystals!
Art Projects
Art projects, in general, are a great way to add more STEAM activities that are art-based to your homeschool. This art curriculum is fantastic and this watercolor art curriculum is a few of our favorites!
Math Activities
Using Legos to learn math is brilliant! Not only does it build fine motor skills, it builds math and engineering skills, too!
