What The Rainbow Really Means

Share with a friend!

Hello, June! It’s the time of year when the weather is finally warming up enough to go to the pool or the beach for some fun in the sun!

June is also “Pride” month in the secular world. I, however, like to jokingly (but in all seriousness) call it “Noahic Covenant Awareness” month. You see, the world has stolen a biblical image of God’s promise, the rainbow, and is using it for their rebellion against a Holy God.

You see, what I’m about to say may receive a positive response, but there are always those who get bent out of shape and will call me “unloving” and “not a true Christian” and will comment with some really BAD theology or comment with downright evil hatred.

Either way, I will stand my ground and stand up for God’s truth so brace yourselves.

What The Rainbow Really Means

Rainbow pride? No, the rainbow is not a sign of one’s debaucherous pride, but rather it’s a sign of the covenant and promise God made that He would not destroy the earth by a flood again.

Genesis‬ ‭9:12-17‬ ‭CSB‬‬

“And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all future generations: I have placed my bow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I form clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all the living creatures: water will never again become a flood to destroy every creature. The bow will be in the clouds, and I will look at it and remember the permanent covenant between God and all the living creatures on earth.” God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and every creature on earth.”

It’s heartbreaking that this beautiful sign of God’s covenant is tarnished by a lie that is in direct opposition to God’s original created design and order. Unfortunately, you can’t go anywhere or see anything without this ideology being shoved down your throat.

Lost are the days when you can watch wholesome family entertainment without this ideology being forced upon families, but more so forced upon children. We can’t even shop in the kid’s section without it being toted around and branded by a little girl named Jojo who “came out”. And honestly, her clothes are cute! But unfortunately, because of the lie that she’s branding, we refuse to spend our money to support said lie.

Because we are in direct opposition to this lie does not mean that we hate others but rather it means we will speak God’s truth in love.

This sign does not represent your “rainbow pride” and sinful lifestyle. It represents a Holy God and His covenant.

I know the Truth and will continue to teach my children said truth and claim the rainbow as what it truly is…God’s covenant and His promise! When we see a rainbow in the sky, we will thank Him for being a God that never lies and who keeps His promises.

God's beautiful rainbow in New Mexico USA it is not a rainbow pride
There may be some of you who disagree with me and that’s fine. I will not stay silent. I will be bold and stand up for the truth, especially God’s truth.

You see, Christians who believe in the inerrant and infallible Word of God should have their hearts broken for those who are lost in unrepentant sin that is in direct rebellion against God’s created order (1 man + 1 woman = be fruitful and multiply).

The loving thing for a true Christian to do is to speak God’s truth in love and pray that their hearts would be repentant and they would turn away from their sin. And this is true for EVERY sin, even my own because…we’re all sinners.

And to be perfectly honest with you, there is someone near and dear to my heart who I love very much who is a lesbian and in a relationship that I refuse to call a marriage. My heart hurts every time they express their rainbow pride but I love her and her friend enough to tell them that they are living in sin against a Holy God and I pray fervently for their hearts to be changed and that she and her friend repent and turn away from their sin.

Let me make something clear.

I am in no way mean, hateful, or cruel towards her or her partner. But I love them enough to speak God’s truth so that their souls may prayerfully be saved because eternity is at stake. What breaks my heart is that the chances of anything changing are very slim. But God and His perfect sovereign will is being done in spite of me.

You see, speaking up and defending my biblical worldview is important to me. I realize that I may lose followers (and family) or receive hateful comments over defining what the rainbow really means, but I pray that my heart is clear. I cannot and will not support rainbow pride. I will continue to share in love, why God created the rainbow, and what the rainbow really means

I love others enough to speak up for God’s truth in love and defend the Gospel and my biblical worldview. And that will never change.

  1. What a great word, sister! And I agree with everything you said – 100% balanced! We’re called to love sinners with the love of Jesus but not celebrate their sin. Speaking the truth in love is hard sometimes because people have become so narrow-minded (on both sides of the issue) that they can’t receive the biblically balanced approach you shared in this article. May the Holy Spirit encourage and strengthen you as you fight the good fight of faith! And may He draw ALL the lost to repentance and salvation by the truth and love of Jesus!
