Are your children little scientists and enjoy exploring light, sound waves, biology, space, and engineering? Or, are you looking for a Christian-based science curriculum for your children? If so, Sonlight Science A may be just what you’re looking for to help your budding scientist!
What is Sonlight?
Sonlight is a complete no-prep, literature-based Christian homeschool curriculum for grades preschool through 12th grade. Real books, including the Bible, are built directly into their History, Bible, Literature, and All-Subjects packages.
After 30 years in business, Sonlight has built its foundation of five pillars:
- literature based (no textbooks)
- Christ-centered (biblical worldview)
- family oriented (great for teaching similar ages)
- global outlook (builds compassion)
- academic excellence (robust education)
They also provide access to free advisors who are experienced homeschool moms available to answer questions about homeschooling or even help you choose which curriculum option is best for your children.

Sonlight Science A
Sonlight Science A is for ages 6-8 and prepares your children to become future scientists by training them to think scientifically by nurturing their natural curiosity. Through daily opportunities to explore the world around them by learning scientific skills and practices. They will explore Earth sciences such as weather, geology, natural habitats, animal life, what makes us sick, and why we eat.
You have the option to choose either a 4-day or 5-day schedule. This set includes:
- Instructors guide
- science experiments
- supplies kit
- data sheets
- living books
Everything we need to do homeschool science came with the box except for the Usborne Internet Linked Children’s Encyclopedia which I purchased from Amazon, but Sonlight does sell it directly on their website as well.
How We Used Sonlight Science A
Science has been lacking in our homeschool routine. It’s been difficult to find a curriculum that was both bible-based and low prep. I was happy to see that Sonlight met both of those criteria plus I love that it works great for teaching multiple children!
My children are ages 5, 7, and 9, and integrating this into our homeschool routine was a piece of cake. We have a 4-day homeschool week anyway, so adding in Science A was no extra trouble. I love how simple yet detailed the lesson plans are which made them easy and not stressful. It’s truly open and go at its best!
On days 1-3, the children learned about the Earth’s orbit around the sun, the Earth’s axis, the Northern, and Southern Hemispheres, etc. then completed their activity sheets after each lesson. The Usborne encyclopedia included links and QR codes to view videos which gave the kids great visuals to enhance what they were learning.
The science experiment was on day 4. Here’s everything that comes with the supplies kit.
The first experiment we did was “What makes day, night, and the seasons”. All we needed to do was reach into the supplies box and grab what we needed plus a few items from home which was a flashlight, lamp, twist tie, sharpie, and ziplock bag.
Each of the children had fun taking turns doing the experiment!
After the experiment was over, they completed their data sheets and we had a discussion.

My Thoughts On Sonlight Science A
My first impression when I opened the box after getting it in the mail was “oooh looky looky!” I loved how everything was so orderly. I couldn’t wait to open it all up and get started.
Besides a few items you may need to use from around your house for experiments, Sonlight Science A is honestly effortless. It’s no-prep, open-and-go, and Christian based which was everything I was looking for. The kids absolutely loved it and I loved teaching it family style.
We can use this for an entire school year of science, maybe even longer if we stretch it out between weeks. That’s a win-win for me!
I highly recommend Sonlight Science A for homeschool science!
