How To Become A Virtual Assistant

Share with a friend!

When I decided to start my own Virtual Assistant business, I knew that I wanted something flexible enough to continue to stay at home with my children, homeschool and make money from home. As a virtual assistant, I am able to contribute to our household finances as a stay at home, homeschool mom which is a great blessing. It has also provided me an opportunity to connect with some amazing business owners, as well as allowed me to build a business of my own! All from the comfort of home!

What Is A Virtual Assistant?

Before we begin to explore how to become a Virtual Assistant let’s start by answering the question what is a Virtual Assistant? A Virtual Assistant, more commonly referred to as a VA, is someone who provides administrative, technical or creative assistance to clients remotely, often from the comfort of their home.

It is not necessary for a virtual assistant to have a degree, certificate or formal education as a VA, nor is it required for them to have formal training in the services they provide. The lack of necessary educational requirements makes it an attractive business for anyone to start.

It’s also the same reason that makes it an ideal business for Mom’s to jump into as a side hustle to; supplement their income, allow them to be a stay at home mom, or to create a full-time business from home.

Types Of Services You Can Offer

One of the best parts of running a Virtual Assistant business is that the types of services you can offer are incredibly broad. This means there is literally something out there that anyone, including you, would be qualified and more than capable of offering.

A few sample services would include:

– Pinterest Management

– Email Management

– Customer Service

– Content Creation; researching and writing blog posts, social media posts, email sequences, etc.

Do I Need Experience?

Other services include pretty much any task that a business owner either doesn’t have the existing skills or the time to do on their own while managing the rest of their business. If you don’t have previous experience in a certain software platform or task no need to worry. Many business owners are willing to train a virtual assistant on a particular system or task that they’d like done, meaning no previous experience required.

Clients often hire Virtual Assistants partially based on their previous experience and more importantly on their personality and enthusiasm. If the business owner feels they can have a good working relationship with their VA then that’s often one of the most important factors in hiring them.

Benefits Of Being A Virtual Assistant

There are many benefits to being a Virtual Assistant. One of the most popular reasons is the flexibility it provides in creating your own work schedule. Moms, in particular, enjoy this benefit because it allows them to be able to work around their family’s life, meaning the flexibility to work early in the morning before anyone is awake, during naps or in the evening when the kids are in bed.

Another benefit of being a Virtual Assistant is you can charge on average between $20 and $30 per hour, much higher than the standard minimum wage. More importantly, if you become an expert in a particular service that you offer you can charge substantially more per hour or offer pricier packages to clients.

What Resources Are Available?

If you’re ready to take the leap to start your own Virtual Assistant Business it might be overwhelming to figure out where to start. What types of services should I offer? How much should I charge? Where should I promote myself? What tools and software would help me streamline my business? You get the idea.
