Typing is such an important skill to have in today’s digital age. I remember learning how to type in high school computer class and that skill has carried me so far over the years. As a homeschooler, teaching how to type has become so easy to learn at a younger age than when I learned how. That’s why I was excited to start typing practice with TypeDojo.
What is TypeDojo?
TypeDojo is a free program and prides itself on “learning how to type the right way” and they make learning how to type simple, fast, and convenient. This program is a great way to teach typing to both adults and children.
By using a method called touch typing, TypeDojo helps teach muscle memory so that you don’t need to look down at the keyboard to type. By focusing on the screen, touch typing teaches you how to type more accurately and efficiently.
TypeDojo helps make learning how to type simple. Their website includes exciting and engaging lessons, challenging tests, and interactive games that will make learning how to type fun.
Using TypeDojo
It was a good time to start my 3rd-grader with typing lessons. Since she already uses the computer for math, learning how to type was a no-brainer. After she completed her daily subjects for her school day, she used TypeDojo last and practiced at least 20 minutes a day.
She started at the basic level and then quickly moved on to the beginner level. Here’s one of her scores after finishing.
She was excited to see that they offered more than just lessons but also games! These are a few games included with TypeDojo!
One of the games she enjoys playing is called Apple Orchard.
At first, she would want to do the games before the lessons, but I helped her quickly realize that she needed to complete the lessons first before she could move on to playing the games.
She has really enjoyed learning how to type and looks forward to it every day!
How Much Is TypeDojo?
Typing practice with TypeDojo is 100% free! You don’t even need to register an account and could easily just visit their site and start lessons. However, I do recommend signing up for an account because it will help you keep track of grading, what lessons are being completed, scores, and more.
My Thoughts On Typing Practice With TypeDojo
I love TypeDojo! We’ve tried one other typing program and this one surpasses it by far! I even tried using it for myself and it is really fun and engaging for me as an adult. Also seeing my daughter’s excitement makes it worth it. She learning an important life skill while having fun. That’s a win-win in my book.
TypeDojo is great and I highly recommend signing up for an account and adding it to your homeschool routine.
