Digital homeschool curriculum options have become more and more popular with the onset of busy families needing to homeschool their children. That’s why Reading Kingdom Online Products may be an option for homeschool families to explore.

What Is Reading Kingdom?

Reading Kingdom provides several different programs for children from Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Parents can choose from either of these programs:

  • Reading Kingdom: teaches students to read and write with comprehension at a 3rd-grade level.
  • Story Smarts: an introductory reading comprehension program that features 30 specially designed, appealing, stories and lessons.
  • Counting Kingdom: an introductory math program that teaches the foundations of math and enhances a student’s conceptual and reasoning abilities.
  • Spelling Ninja: a spelling program that teaches students to rapidly develop the essential visual memory skills that lead to effortless spelling.

For this review, I will be discussing Counting Kingdom.

What Is Counting Kingdom?

Reading Kingdom's Counting Kingdom

The Counting Kingdom online program is geared towards children ages 3 and up that teaches math foundations as well as conceptual, reasoning, and linguistic forms. Children will learn how to:

  • recognize, count, and understand numbers up to 10
  • calculate the number of objects in a group
  • comprehend key math concepts such as “same as,” “all”, “another one” and “the right number.”
  • understand concepts such as “How many are here?”, “Count these”
  • and more.

The recommended time that Counting Kingdom suggests is to use the program 4 days a week for best results. The program consists of 3 levels and each level uses a “dot sheet” which is a tool that helps give a visual in order to organize numbers and perception.

How We Used Counting Kingdom

I used Counting Kingdom with my preschooler 2 times a week. At first, she was really excited to use the program but it quickly lost its “shiny new game” appeal. The more she used it the more she didn’t like it and I quickly began to see why.

The best way I can describe it is that the program’s momentum is slow and a bit dull which made her loose interest quickly. She would not even get halfway through the lesson before she starting whining and would want to stop. Although, the program suggests 4 days a week, I did not do the suggested schedule with her because of her aversion to towards it.

The best, most productive days she had with the program was when she was sick with the flu and didn’t want to do much else but rest on the sofa.

How Much Does Counting Kingdom Cost?

A subscription to Counting Kingdom is affordable and costs $49.99 annually. They also provide a free 7-day trial.

My Thoughts On Counting Kingdom

Unfortunately, I have to say that Counting Kingdom didn’t work for us. I tried the program on my own without my preschooler and I had the same aversion towards it. It is just dull and slow. I decided that I would not continue to do the program with her because it wasn’t worth putting more time towards it or worth a potential meltdown.

I don’t want to completely give this a bad score because I think it could work for children who needs something a little more slow pace. It didn’t work for us, but it may work for you. One thing that I do recommend is trying the 7 day free trial to see if it’s a good fit for your family.
