Online Book Library Of Classic Literature

I have a deep love for classic literature. I’m always on the hunt for classic goodies to bring home. So much so, that every time I go thrifting, I check the book section to see if I can score old classic books. I love when I hit the jackpot!

I also love when I find an online resource where I can have access to classic literature. Heritage Humanities makes it easy to access a wide variety of classic literature in a digital format.

What is Heritage Humanities?

Heritage Humanities provides an academically rigorous approach to traditional Western humanities by providing a collection of online books for children of all ages to learn traditional Western values and logic. Through their literature, they hope to help readers think for themselves, understand where our culture came from in hopes that they will live a responsible, moral, ethical life.

Their extensive online book collection offers 24/7 access, is user friendly, and is formatted to be multi-device compatible. Each book also offers text-to-speech technology that makes it easy to listen as an audiobook.

Heritage Humanities offers books that span across five categories and is constantly adding to their collection.

How We Used Heritage Humanities

This was so easy to add to our homeschool as we needed it. Several of the books in this online library are on our homeschool book list. For example, the McGuffey’s Eclectic Readers on our personal homeschool book list are available to read here.

How Much Is Heritage Humanities?

I was shocked to find out this is 100% free! I’m not sure how long that will last, but as of right now, this amazing resource is free!

My Thoughts On Heritage Humanities

I think this is a brilliant resource. I would love to see the list of book options continue to expand. One thing that was a bit odd is the text-to-speech option sounds a bit robotic and can be hard for a young child to follow along. The yellow bar often skips words as the words are read.

I’d like to see an option to rewind with text-to-speech or at least the option to go back or even go ahead a few lines as needed. As it stands, you have to start the entire page over if you needed to go back.

Features I do like are that you’re able to adjust the size of the text, speed up or slow down text-to-speech, change the color of the background, and look up definitions of unfamiliar words.

Overall, I really do like this app! There’s definitely some improvements to be made, but that’s to be expected with a brand new app. I look forward to seeing this app continue to grow in its development.  Be sure to check out Heritage Humanities!
